Update

Well, a few things have happened since my last post. First and foremost, I got my car fixed. It ended up costing a little more than I had wanted, but what car repair doesn’t? Needless to say, I am back in my car and loving it. I had been quoted on Facebook and Twitter as saying, “my sister has baby dolls built better than the part that was replaced in my car.” This is a very true statement. The part that they took out of my car is basically just a switch the size of a Barbie car. It actually looks as if it does not have any mechanical function. It just detects what position you have the gear shift in and tells the computer, electronically, what gear the put the transmission in. I’m not an expert in cars, so I could be wrong….

Speaking of being a car expert, I would like to learn more about the mechanics of a car. It could end up saving me some serious cash in the long run.

I want to clear the air about some common misconceptions about the Chrysler Sebring. Yes, many sources do say that the Sebring is the worst mid-sized sedan, but I would like to build an argument in favor of the Sebring.

1. Many people cite the recalls that were associated with 2007 Sebring. These recalls have been properly handled by Chrysler. In fact, if you get them fixed (and I do) this problem becomes null and void. The recall issues were fixed in later revisions of the Sebring.
2. Some critics said the Sebring was not a safe car. This is false. The Sebring was awarded as one of the safest mid-sized sedans in the market by the Institute for National Highway Safety for 2010…. So…. That makes that point null and void as well…

All in all, the only major thing I had go wrong with my car was the gear shift, and if that’s the only thing, than I would say I’m doing pretty well!

Well, this is all I have for now. Tune in next time.

Broken Car = Broken Heart

On June 26, 2010, in Lucas, by admin

For almost a year I had a good thing going with the love of my life, but the honey moon had to come to an end.  Yesterday after work I got in my car to go home, I put the key in the ignition, turned over the engine, hit the break pedal, and failed to put the car in reverse…  To my dismay I found that I could not move the car out of park.

I tried turning the car off and on, but had no luck.  I didn’t know what to do…  I ended up calling a local auto parts store, and the gentleman I talked to suggested that the break lamp switch had gone bad.  Not knowing any different, I called a local Chrysler dealer to purchase the part. I then called my friend Andrea, and we ventured to Progressive Chrysler (the dealer), got the part, and found that it was not what I needed.

After a some time, and searching on the internet, I found that it is common for the lock switch in a Chrysler to malfunction.  While Chrysler could have built the switch out of metal, they found that it would be cheaper to build it out of plastic…

I called AAA to have my car towed to a local mechanic, and to my surprise the broken part was not broken because of Chrysler’s failed attempt to save money, but because someone spilled coffee or pop in the gear shifter…  This means that the person who owned the car before me was pretty careless with in-car beverages… Thus I am forced to spend hundreds to have my car repaired.
